Should we review Hatchet 3 (2013)?

Hatchet 3 (2013) is the third film of horror of the Hatchet Series. It chronicles Victor Crowley's continuing adventures and his rampage through Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. The film features Kane Hodder as Victor Crowley, Brian Quinn as Deputy Winslow as well as Rileah Vanderbilt in the role of Misty.

The main strengths of the film lie in the practical effects. Hatchet 3 is a horror film that employs CG effects in a lesser degree than other films. Hatchet 3 has a lot of practical makeup effects and sets, which results in some really horrific scenes throughout the film.

The cast gives a strong performance and Kane Hodder standing out as an incredibly intimidating villain. It's like an '80s slasher (click articles) movie and the dialogue is a bit too funny and snarky. Additionally, there are some really funny moments throughout that offer some humor in the midst of the terrifying action.

Unfortunately, because the budget is extremely limited (reportedly $1 million), most locations in the film are re-used locations from previous films in series. For instance, the same boathouse was featured twice within the movie. Many of these locations feel like they were reused from previous films in this franchise. The Hatchet and Hatchet 2 films may feel like it's a familiar film.

In the end, Hatchet 3 was very enjoyable. I found it to be remarkably like other films in the series. However, Hatchet 3 provided lots of gory thrills and entertaining performances by its cast.
